Church Leader's Development Opportunities

Professional Supervision

"Supervision is a process of reflection, about self, the role, the team, the organization and the primary task, as well as the mutual relationship between these aspects, with the goal to learn from that for future practice (Van Beekum, 1996)"

Supervision provides a place of reflection and facilitates the development of the observer self which enhances ethical and theological ministry professional practise.

Malcolm is an Approved Supervisor for Anglican Diocese of Newcastle.

Cost:$100 per 55min session

Coaching

"Coaching is the process of coming alongside a person or team to help them discover God's agenda for their life and ministry, and then cooperating with the Holy Spirit to see the agenda become a reality. (Robert E. Logan & Gary B. Reinecke 2003)

Coaching is for those who want to become more effective in their ministry by better planning, organization and skill development.

Malcolm has been trained in the Christian "Coachnet" method by Uniting Church Board of Mission.

Cost:$100 per 55min session

Spiritual Direction

"Spiritual Direction is help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God's personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with God, and to live out the consequences of this relationship (William A. Barry & William J. Connolly 1982)"

Spiritual Direction is for those who want to deepen their relationship with God through contemplative reflection on their personal experiences with God.

Malcolm is a trained Spiritual Director through Sydney Centre for Religious Development and a member of Conference of Spiritual Directors (CRD).

Christian Meditation / Centring Prayer

Four 1 hours sessions teaching Fr.Thomas Keating's method. These sessions give easy and immediate access to a daily spiritual discipline. This is for those who are wanting to move into a more contemplative mode of the spiritual life.

Enneagram

The Enneagram is a system of

self-awareness and spiritual development. To grow in our spiritual life we have to be able to recognise and engage with our own unique conditioned ways of being in the world. The Enneagram helps people locate themselves on a spectrum of 9 personality types each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Participants are led through a process of discerning where their personality sits in the 9 types. Help is given in how people can move beyond their personality to discover their real essence.

The Enneagram is a "profound, insightful and practical tool". When we are most truly ourselves, then we are most close to God.

Retreat Days

These can be for groups or for individuals. Usually for 1 day. They can be organised around a theme or around individual need. There is a one-day Introduction to Spiritual Direction retreat available.

Retreat for Busy People

A 'Retreat for busy people' is usually held in a group who have their retreat whilst still participating in their daily routine. Usually this occurs over a 3 week period where each participant meets with the whole group at the beginning and end of the 3 week period. During the time participants contract to spend 10 minutes a day for the 3 weeks undertaking a spiritual discipline. The director meets individually with each participant for 20 minutes each of the 3 weeks.

Group Spiritual Direction

For those who do not want to participate in a one-on-one relationship with a spiritual director can meet in groups of 4 people and through the demonstrated method can spend time together developing their spiritual life. Malcolm will explain the method and oversee the group until they are able to stand on their own. Usually the group meets monthly

Planned Giving

Malcolm has run a number of Planned Giving Programs for congregations. The Program is usually staged around the Mission Plan of the congregation focussing on funding for specific projects. Malcolm plays the role of consultant and works with a group of enthusiastic parishioners. The program is usually over a 3-4 week period with a 4 week lead-up time.

Malcolm has had experience coaching Lay and Ordained Leaders in their tasks and responsibilities. He is keenly interested in developing the spiritual life of individuals and groups of congregational members.
